Reality vs. Fantasy
20cm x 12cm Gouache Paint on Board January 2020 |
Exhibition TextReality vs. Fantasy is showing to how there is a gap between the visual image of how reality is like and how fantasy is seen as through the looks of younger viewers. However through the creation of this painting I was able to encounter multiple obstacles to using gouache paint within the first part of these two paintings. The image that is being depicted withing the two paintings I am trying to convey the difference from the reality of the real world compared to the fantasy that is being set into younger audiences. This not only shows the difference of how things are being seen as, but as well as to how the real life world is not as it might seem like to younger people in the world that still don't have that certain innocence like older people do.

The Process:
Inspirations
Throughout this project I was inspired by the artwork of Edvard Munch, The Scream whom was able to create this image of how he was going through a hard time of his life. Edvard Munch liked to refer his painting a "soul painting" which not only defined how he reveals a honest and an ugly glimpse of his inner troubles and the feeling of anxiety he has. This not only as an artist is he able to express himself through the image of his feelings but as well as to how personal this painting that he created is to him. Not only is this painting a form of him expressing his emotions but also to how he wanted to give a personal meaning of showing "skill" and "beauty" as well as this artwork being a traditional goal of his own.

Planning Sketches
Ways to how I was able to sketch this out, I found it very hard to find some sort of product I was able to create regarding the ideas of Edvard Munch within to how he was able to find some sort of idea of comparing two completely different things. However, I was encountered to find a hard way for me to create an idea of involving Edvard Munch's ways of expressing his art with my own. To a conclusion, I was able to find a way for me to do the complete opposite and being able to depict his art with my own. It was by far a hard concept to find for myself and my inspiration but I was also able to find the ideas and concepts that were compatible with my ideas and my thoughts.

My Process
|
Being able to show and give details of my process of this project, using gouache paint was by far one of the most difficult parts of this process which not only I was able to play around with at some point but also find some sort of way for me to use this as a way to get used to the paint that I have never used before. By far, I feel that I could have done a much better job using blending and being able to get different color schemes as well as finding a way for me to use my brush in different ways and using certain techniques.

Techniques & Tools Used
The use of tools that I was used upon were such as gouache paint, brushes and a board in which was were my artwork was made in. However throughout the process of the certain techniques that I used during this project I found it not only something new I was open to but as well as the way gouache paint feels like and how it should be used as. However, I found it difficult to use gouache paint because of how I tried to blend within two colors which not only did I need to use water when I wanted to do this but as well as to how I had to use certain brushes while I was painting. The use of techniques that I had were not only found to be difficult sometimes but were also something new I have never tried before. Although that it was something new that I had previously experimented it was by far a good experience to know what it is like to use this paint and what it is like.

Reflection
At the end of my project, I personally feel that using gouache paint was probably one of the hardest parts for me. However, I was also aware that it was my first time and using this paint was going to be way different compared to the paint that I use myself such as acrylic paint. Reflecting back to my final product I was not expecting it to be as difficult to use this sort of paint, however at the end I was able to get the hand of using this type of paint and see in depth what it is like to use a paint like this.
