Block Print
The Process:
Inspirations
Kindersterben. Digital Image. Käthe Kollwitz . Np.,
n.d Web 16 Sep 2019 |
For my inspiration, I was inspired by Käthe Kollwitz in which she created a certain art piece that really caught my attention. Kindersterben really inspired me to create something similar to this art work, I tried to depict some certain techniques that she used as she was creating this artwork. I found it a very not so easy to do, due to the fact that she did a lot of carving and it was very well thought out. Therefore I personally believe that I did not do my hardest best with this project, but one thing I did get out of this was learning how to fix my mistakes and how I can do better for next time.

Planning Sketches
As I was creating my Block Print I thought of doing a step by step sketches in which I thought of creating 3 step by step processes. Therefore I feel that I could have done a better job at this in which I personally believe that I did not do so well with this. However I did this sketches in order for me to know how I wanted my Block print to look like. After creating these 3 sketches I combined them as much as I could and created a image of a human figure by using my inspiration. In contrast between my artwork and my inspiration I believe that I did have a few connections due to the fact that it is a different from what Käthe Kollwitz created and from what I had previously made.

My Process
Throughout my process I made multiple changes to my sketches I re-drew my sketch trying to figure out what I wanted and how exactly I was going to do this in which was somewhat difficult at the time, but as I was creating those drawings over and over I realized what I was struggling with and then found a way to fix those mistakes and find a suitable way for me to create my artwork the way I wanted it and how I was going to do it. In this sketch I found it hard to create a artwork the way Käthe Kollwitz had done her own, it is difficult to create something out of the ordinary in many unique and amazing ways. In which not only inspired me but also made me realize that it is possible, I pushed my limits and did my best to create straight and curved lines that go down the whole sketch in which I came to a solution that worked and allowed me to create my product.

Techniques & Tools
The tools that I had previously used to create this project was such as a roller, water based ink and a pallet in which I was able to spread out in order to use my roller and get a certain texture to be able to use my roller on my block print. Therefore when my block print was already rolled over with ink I then took a white sheet of paper, in which I put over my block print. Afterwards I then took my baren and put pressure over the white sheet of paper in order to get my print correctly.

Reflection
Overall, I feel that I could have done a better job with my block print and though out better ideas and thoughts. As well as I did not expect my final print to come out the way it came out as to how I saw it in my sketch.
What I Liked: I did like the fact to how it pops out the dark color from the back and as to where I carved, it gives out a clear and open image out and shows the image of my ideas I had towards making this project. What I also liked was to how I was inspired by my inspiration, I really love the artwork of Käthe Kollwitz the way she created her artwork and as to how she was very creative with her ideas.
What I Wish to do Different: I feel that I could have spent more time creating more sketches on this certain piece and the reason to why is because I did not was the fact that I think of one thing of creating a piece of art and see another certain piece of art I like I change my mind of creating one thing to another and get too distracted choosing one or the other. However I have seen Käthe Kollwitz's artwork before so it really is nothing new I have seen, which was a certain artist I had learned about previous years. Therefore I liked this certain project that we have so far done, it was a really fun and great experience to how certain artworks are made by different artist.

ACT Reponses
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause and effect relationship between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork?
A direct effect I was able to identify would be that I really like the scrapes that I made in my final product and how Kathe Kollawitz had also done in her artwork. In which also has an effect that shows how I personally don't like expressing myself out to the public feeling secure sometimes and therefore which shows that I can be insecure of myself at times.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding your topic?
The overall approach the author has regarding my topic would be that she really liked to have meanings behind her artwork in which I tried doing the same with my artwork.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, ect. while researching inspiration?
Coming to a conclusion I discovered that artist really do not like to give out the theme of their piece of work, they really like to give our feelings to the audience and for them to decide what exactly they feel as they see that specific artwork. In which then gave me a realization that everyone has their own thoughts of their own, which then not only gives different point of views but also can inspire others into creating something new and fresh by innovating ourselves.
What was the central theme or idea around your inspirational research?
My central theme I had as my inspirational research was such as me connecting my work to how we all have our own personal problems and how we all are able to handle them and what we do to not show how much of a hard time we might be going through and to show that it may be hard but there will always be a small light that will never leave us as long as we are able to maintain that light, which that light may be different to others rather than what my light may be.
What kind of inference did you make while reading your research?
The type of inference that I made while researching was such as what do I want my artwork to express to the audience and such as in what way and what artists I can connect this to in order to not give out the meaning to my artwork.
